Poker tournaments have always offered a different challenge to cash games, and have become extremely popular in recent years. With the interest in tournament play being aided by major land based tournaments such as those at the WSOP, the online poker world has brought a number of tournament varieties to online players.

To play Bingo online now Click Here!

Some of the earliest online tournaments involved simple set buy in fees and cash prize pools, over either a single table, or multi table format. The survival and elimination aspects of tournament poker play mean that poker players take a different approach in various phases of the game.

There have been several new tournament types that have been popular over recent times, including satellites, which involve a prize pool consisting of seats to a bigger event. Then there are bounty poker tournaments, which involve cash payouts being made for the elimination of players. Some bounties may also offer a cash prize pool, and sometimes the bounties on each players head will increase with each poker player they take out. Guaranteed tournaments are very popular with most poker players, as they offer a set amount in the prize pool, which invariably means plenty of players register. Poker tournaments remain very popular, whether in a new exciting format or their traditional form, and they will always be used to determine world champions, along with offering poker players the chance of a huge cash win for a small outlay.

Poker Games – Since it’s earliest beginnings, poker has grown and developed several branches of it’s original concept. The standard hand rankings in poker remain constant through most games, although certain variants such as Razz work on the basis of trying to make the lowest hand of unpaired cards.

To play poker online Click Here!

This low hand twist basically works on the opposite principal of the standard hand rankings. Omaha hi/lo actually incorporates both hand ranking systems, awarding half of the pot to the high hand, and half to the low. Some poker games involve each player holding their individual hand in it’s entirety, with cards being ‘drawn’ or replaced. 2-7 Triple Draw, and 5 Card Draw are two of the more common games of this type. The most popular poker games today such as Holdem and Omaha, require board cards being dealt which each player uses along with their hole cards to make the best hand possible.

As decades pass, different games become more or less popular, and it is highly probable that Holdem will not be the most popular game forever. For players that are struggling to turn a regular profit at a game such as Holdem, it can often be an excellent choice to learn a new game. The poker games which are not all that well populated but still have enough players to keep tables running regularly, are often a great place to find weak players. Some of these players will be those looking for something a bit different from the regular grind at Holdem tables, and some may be purely recreational players who just play for fun.
Mastering poker games such as these can be a very profitable endeavour, and games such as these will perhaps see a surge of interest over the coming years.

Whichever game you choose though, you will find they all share something in common. Every poker game offers the opportunity to both challenge yourself mentally, enjoy playing poker, improve your skills to give an edge over the opposition and consequently, make money.

Poker games have evolved and developed from simpler beginnings, and there are several games that prove popular among poker players today. By far the most popular game remains Texas Holdem, but with this game being so popular for so long, some players have begun to grow tired of the game.

To play poker games online now Click Here!

Professionals have sought out the greener pastures of Omaha, where there are far more unskilled players making errors of judgement to profit from. The rising popularity of Omaha has made this poker game the second most popular, but on major online poker sites, other games still have their following too. Seven Card Stud used to be very popular, and remains on offer at many poker rooms, and other games such as 5 Card Draw and Razz amongst others can also be found if you check around the major poker rooms.

Poker sites with strong player traffic should try to offer as many games as they reasonably can, and Pokerstars certainly caters for every player with a huge variety of games on offer. Other big names such as Full Tilt do not offer much in the way of alternative games, which is perhaps an aspect they could improve on, but you can still find a reasonable choice on Full Tilt, and other sites. Poker games will not remain the most popular forever, and players who want to make money are always looking for an alternate game to master where they feel the players at the tables are quite weak. Holdem is unlikely to be overtaken by other games in popularity just yet, but this is something that will almost certainly happen eventually.

Most poker players only want fun and nothing more. The cream of the lot, however, might become aware of their poker talents and decide to play poker for a living. These are the poker pros. Any player who plays poker online for fun can become a poker pro provided he/she has the required grit and determination and genuine love for the game.

To play poker online click here!

A poker pro’s path usually begins at an online poker room. Many online poker rooms encourage new talents by giving them an opportunity to participate in big poker events such as World Series of Poker. Many players online, who have made it to the Hall of Fame, began by playing freerolls in a distinguished site such as Ultimate Bet, Ladbrokes, or Blue Square.

Players who wish to join the Hall of Fame must focus on mastering one poker variant and one variety of game instead of playing too many variants at the same time. They must find out what variant, limit, rule, tournament, sit n’ go, or ring game suits them and must master its strategies well.

The next step is to observe and learn from poker pros. Players can learn a lot from the mistakes of others players too. Above all, they must learn the art of observing other players. This usually puts them well on the way to the Hall of Fame. Players who wish to play for a living must begin their journey at a good online poker room. Their first step is to register at a poker site.

Of the many hands we play throughout each tournament or cash game, there are not many that we look back on as our best hands of the night. Most hands are uneventful, comprising of either a fold or a small pot which may be won or lost.

To play poker online click here!

There is a point to be made here, in that despite not being memorable as one of our best poker hands, winning a good amount of these small pots will contribute to your profit or defecit over the long run. You cannot win them all of course, but it is important to remain focussed and try to play your best even when you are playing a small pot.

The best poker hands are usually remembered as those in which you won a lot of chips, or made a great fold. Any hand where you make a careful, logical decision, that turns out to be correct, counts as one of your better hands. But of course there are usually special circumstances attached to those hands considered the best and most memorable of poker hands.

When looking at the best poker hands from a hand ranking perspective, you will find that most poker games follow the same rules with hand strengths. There are however, some differences in games such as Omaha hi/lo, where half the pot is won by a qualifying low hand. These low hands must consist of five unpaired cards of 8 or lower, with Aces low, making (A,2,3,4,5) the nut low. Some poker games which involve three card poker hands being made, and will count three of a kind as the best hand, followed by a straight flush, then a straight, then a regular flush. Other then these exceptions though, standard hand rankings apply in most forms of poker.

Many poker pros began their careers in brick-and-mortar casinos. In fact, a land-based casino is the best place to learn various poker rules and strategies. This is because players can actually hold and feel the cards and see their opponents and, therefore, cannot take the game for granted. However, after developing the required poker skills and learning all there is to know about the various variants of poker, players automatically consider joining an online poker room.

To play poker online click here!

The experience of playing poker in an online poker room is unique and simply cannot be compared to the experience of playing poker in a land-based casino. Players must experience them both in order to understand and appreciate the difference. However, playing in an online poker room has a number of advantages.

In the first place, online poker players do not have to get ready and travel to play a game of poker. They can play in their pajamas in the comfort of their bedrooms. Besides, they can play as long as they like, as often as they like, and whenever they like. Online poker rooms also offer a wide range of poker variants to choose from, lower stakes, freerolls with large prizes, bonuses, promotions, and opportunities to participate in live internationally renowned poker events such as WPT and WSOP, to mention just two.

Players who are interested in reaping the rich benefits of playing online can register at any prominent online poker room such as Ladbrokes, William Hill, Betfair, Blue Square and so on.

In poker, there are several instances that require either a short term, or long term change of playing style.

To play online poker click here!

If you play with the same people every week and are selectively aggressive in attacking weakness, it is only a matter of time before these poker players see how you are playing poker and observe that you probably don’t have a strong hand a reasonable amount of the time. Then, it is only a matter of time before you find yourself regularly called or reraised when faced with marginal poker hands.

In this instance, you might find you need to tighten up your play significantly. Switching your poker playing style in this way will often feel uncomfortable, but it is good for developing your poker skills, and should show some results in the short term. Just as poker players notice you are playing aggressively in the first place, they will soon begin to notice you are showing down strong hands most of the time and back off.

It is usually important in poker not just to change your playing style to keep people guessing, but altering the way you play different hands each time you are in those situations, will confuse opposing poker players too. If poker players know you can play hands in interesting different ways, and are capable of anything when you are in a hand, opposing poker players are often far less confident about playing a pot against you. Of course when you switch your poker play around in the short term, or the long term, you need to do so in a way that is not too detrimental to the amount of chips you are picking up in good situations.

The poker world has been eagerly awaiting this years main event final table, and the reasons run deeper than simply wanting to see a known face win the big one.

To play online poker games click here!

Phil Ivey is widely regarded as one of the absolute best poker players on the circuit, and to see him win the main event would first of all, be great for the image of poker. Without wishing to sound mean spirited towards previous recent winners, many of them have been amateurs that simply got a lot of luck when they needed it most.

The very nature of poker as a part luck game means that the best in the world will not always win every poker tournament, but there has been a cycle of unknown poker players winning the main event for several years. Phil Ivey is already a very respected and feared poker player at the tables, and has already won two bracelets this year alone. With a total of seven bracelets to his name, no one could argue that he doesn’t deserve to be there, and most people would love to see him win.

If a poker champion who is already well known across the world wins the main event, it gives weight to the argument of skill being a very big factor in poker. With the second shortest stack at the table, it is not going to be easy for Ivey to win, especially with an amateur poker player who has almost 60 million in chips between himself and the title. Regardless of his chip defecit, his skill is such that you would never bet against him coming back to win it in November.

Poker play often differs in terms of both general styles and individual plays, from player to player. Some players are most often passive in the way they play poker hands, and some are mostly aggressive in the way they play, although it is fair to say that most players try to mix their plays around where possible.

To play online poker click here!

You could argue that poker is about balance when it comes to strategy, because if you are too passive you leave a lot of chips out there that could have been picked up with a simple bet. But also, if you bluff at too many pots, you can end up losing a big pot just because you didn’t back down and felt compelled to fire again on the turn or river.

Finding a happy medium between these two polar points of poker play is usually a good way to play, but as ever, taking into account individual poker players and circumstances is important. Generally speaking, aggressive poker players tend to take much bigger swings during a poker game, and so there is certainly an argument for tightening up if you do happen to have a good upswing during a tournament.

Patience can help you a great deal in these same poker tournaments however, as other poker players will be getting eliminated whilst you take no risks at all by folding your hands. The one key point to be made in the long run is that aggressive poker players tend to either get eliminated or make it far into a tournament, and given the prize payout structures, aggression has to beneficial in terms of MTT strategy.
